Description: The Akwaaba Free Medical Clinic at The International Central Gospel Church in Worcester offers free medical care to all. The clinic is a project of the Akwaaba Health Initiative, and is staffed by volunteer doctors, nurses, and medical students from the UMass Medical School. One of the main goals of the clinic is to improve access to health care for Worcester's African immigrants and residents of the Vernon Hill neighborhood.

Health Awareness Services of Central Mass.
Description: Health Awareness Services is a non-profit health care organization with family planning clinics and HIV counseling and testing sites in Worcester and other central Massachusetts locations. HIV/AIDS services, and all services for youth age 17 or younger are free. Charges for other services are based on a sliding fee scale.
Family planning clinic services:

Services include pap smears and breast exams • screening for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, anemia, testicular cancer • blood tests for marriage license applicants • birth control • pregnancy tests • emergency contraception • testing and treatment for urinary tract infections and other common gynecological problems • screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections • referrals.

The clinic serves adults and youth of reproductive age. Teens do not need parental consent.

Health Awareness Services accepts MassHealth, the Children's Medical Security Plan, and several other insurance plans. In some cases, you may need a referral from your primary care doctor.

For adults (18 and older) without insurance, charges are based on a sliding fee scale. The amount you pay is based on your gross income and family size. No one is turned away because of inability to pay.

Plumley Village Health Services
Description: Plumley Village Health Services is a satellite health clinic located in the Plumley Village public housing development. It provides medical services and health education to residents of Plumley Village and the surrounding neighborhood. Plumley Village Health Services is a partner of UMass Memorial Health Care.

Ronald McDonald Care Mobile
Description: The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a mobile health care unit that makes scheduled stops at various locations in Worcester. It offers free health care to children and young adults who do not have health care because of financial problems, language barriers, or transportation issues. The Care Mobile is staffed by family doctors, nurse practitioners, dental hygienists, lab technicians, and outreach workers, and is equipped with medical and dental exam rooms and a lab.

Medical services include physicals, treatment of illnesses, immunizations, well-child care, lab tests, blood pressure tests, health education, vision referrals, hearing tests, and mental health counseling.

Dental services include dental exams, dental cleaning, dental x-rays, fluoride applications, sealants, and referrals.

The Care Mobile helps eligible families enroll in MassHealth, Health Safety Net (Free Care), and other low-cost or free health care programs.

The Care Mobile makes scheduled stops at community schools and various other locations in Worcester on weekdays between 9 AM and 6 PM. Call for a schedule. If possible, make an appointment ahead of time. However, walk-ins are always welcome.

Worcester Evening Free Medical Service Program (WEFMSP)
Description: The Worcester Evening Free Medical Service Program (WEFMSP) has two walk-in clinics for adults and children with little or no health insurance. The clinic at Epworth United Methodist Church offers free general medical care. The clinic at Wesley United Methodist Church offers free eye exams and hearing evaluations, and free or low-cost eyeglasses and hearing aids. Services are provided by volunteers from the Worcester area.
